As the name implies, it has a one liter engine that produces all the power you need. There is also the V-Strom 650 which is weaker in terms of power and top speed, but is just as capable as any other high performance bike out there.

The Suzuki V-Strom 1000 has a liquid-cooled, 996cc, 90 degree V-Twin, DOHC D-Valve engine. Its fuel injection system consists of the Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve System. It maintains optimum air velocity in the intake tract for a smooth low-to-mid rpm throttle response and improved engine torque. Its Auto Fast Idling System automatically monitors coolant temperature. The Semi-gear driven valve system of the bike makes it easy for maintenance and thus minimizes cam sprocket size and engine height for optimum engine placement. Besides, High mounted stainless steel exhaust system enhances the engine torque output.
In just the first few minutes of riding the V-Strom 1000, you will instantly realize how capable the one liter engine block is. Many insiders and experts agree that the one liter engine is definitely one of the best performance engines of all time. The engine allows the bike to speed and accelerate in a very smooth manner - just like its baby brother, the V-Strom 650. Speed is out of question. You can easily twist the throttle and blow by any other vehicles on the freeway. The engine is actually derived from the Ducati 916 Challenger, but gets detuned to just produce a healthy 100 horsepower.
However, 2004 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 is not all about its engine. It has some other good features as well. The exterior design of the bike is awesome. It is sport-styled with comfortable seat, engine guard and hand guards. There is a large multi-reflector 60/55W headlight too. All the instruments of the bike are easy to comprehend. So, it is a great bike for the beginners. For the best possible wind protection, the hand guards are specially designed. Besides, the rear luggage rack with the rubber-padded platform helps keep bags and luggage in place.
The DL 1000 V Strom has great ergonomics. The original seats are comfortable enough for both short and long distance trips. Riding positions are not that bad either. You do get a lot of leg room for both the biker and the passenger. The bike is very practical too. It has a top case to store your helmets as well as other items that you might have while touring. Opt for the integrated bags and you will get extra storage room. Add to that list of features, the enormous fuel tank and you will know that the V-Strom 1000 is destined to be a great bike for the long haul. Even though the bike does look huge, it is actually not that heavy. This also means that you will be able to maneuver the bike with great ease when the engine is turned off, or at the traffic light.
All in all, the Suzuki DL V-Strom 1000 is almost next to flawless. It has ample storage space. The ride is extremely comfortable thanks to the shock absorbing suspension as well as the ergonomic seat. You will be able to ride the bike for hours and still not feel tired and fatigued. The engine, on the other hand, allows the bike to propel you like a road rocket.
So should you spend your hard-earned money on this high performance bike? I think you should if you are looking for an all rounder that is fast, capable, comfortable and practical at the same time.
